Beyond Sunday with Pastor Nic

Covered by His Protection

Nicholas Williams

Welcome to be on Sunday and day 23 of anchored in God's promises. Every day this month, we're anchoring ourselves in one promise from God's word. Something to hold onto as we step into the day. Today's promise is one of comfort and safety. It's found in Psalm 91, 4. It says He will cover you with his feathers and under his wings you will find refuge. His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. The imagery here is powerful. He'll cover you with his feathers. Under his wings, you'll find refuge. This is a picture of a mother bird spreading her wings over her chicks. She shields them from predators, from storms, from danger. To be under her wings is to be in the safest place imaginable. In the same way, God doesn't just watch over us from a distant. He pulls us close. He covers us. He provides safety that isn't fragile or temporary. It's secure and protective and constant. I want you to notice the word refuge. It's more than just protection. It's a place of rest. Refuge is where you stop running. It's where you stop panicking. It's where you stop striving. Life will give us storms. We'll face moments of uncertainty and fear, or even spiritual attack. But God's promise is that when we run to him, we are not left exposed. We are tucked beneath his covering. That means you don't have to face today unprotected. The second half of the verse, it shifts from wings to weapons. His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. A shield is a personal defense. It guards you from direct attack. A Rampart is a fortified wall around a city offering large scale protection. Together they show us that God's faithfulness covers both the small battles and the big ones. Whether it's a personal struggle, you're quietly carrying. Or a massive challenge that feels like an army at your gates. His faithfulness is enough. And here's the key. It's not your strength. It's not your wisdom. It's not even your determination that shields you. It's his faithfulness. I once heard a story about a wildfire that swept through a field after the fire had passed. A farmer found the charred remains of a mother hen. But when he gently moved her body underneath her were several live chicks untouched by the flames. That's the picture of Psalm 91. God himself takes the heat, the danger, the impact so his children can live when you and I feel surrounded by the flames of fear and temptation and hardship, remember, you are under his wings. His faithfulness is your shield. So here's your challenge for today. Take a moment to identify where you need God's covering. Maybe it's fear about the future, stress about finances, anxiety about your family, or a spiritual battle. You feel too weak to fight. Now when you've got that in your head, pray this verse out loud. God, cover me with your wings. Let your faithfulness be my shield today. Write it on a sticky note. Save it on your phone, wallpaper or whisper it when you feel the weight pressing in. Let's pray. Father, thank you for being our refuge and our fortress. Thank you that in every storm and every battle you cover us with your wings. Remind us today that your faithfulness is our shield, protecting us from what we can see and even what we cannot, because we rest in you. In Jesus' name, amen. Thanks for joining me today on day 23. If today's message encourage you, share it with someone. Who feels exposed or unprotected right now, they might need this reminder that God's wings are strong enough to cover them too. I'll see you back here tomorrow.
